Pale Blue Eyes On Tour
The British electro-modernist guitar trio will support British-shoegaze band Slowdive on their Europe tour, playing six concerts in Germany and Switzerland.
December 06, 2023
Pale Blue Eyes are a young trio, formed in South Devon in the southwest of the UK, named after the 60’s rock classic by US-rock band The Velvet Underground. The band is formed of front man Matthew Board, his wife Lucy and bassist Aubrey Simpson.
The group has released two albums thus far - “Souvenirs” (2022) and “This House” (2023) - which were mixed and mastered by Dean Honer (The Moonlandingz, Róisín Murphy, I Monster, Human League). While the band’s debut LP captured memories and melancholy from around the death of Matthews’s father, “This House” is its next-door neighbour. The new album was finished in the immediate aftermath of the death of Matthew’s mum. As soon as the record was completed, Pale Blue Eyes were packing up the contents from their self-built home studio, financed through endless casual work and a bank loan. The location was a dream – in the middle of nowhere, just south of Dartmoor, midway between Plymouth and Totnes. The studio was where they spent hours recording and self-producing both records, while supporting Matthews’s mum through the decline of a long-term illness.
Pale Blue Eyes say the new album is a “slightly more worldly-wise sibling” to 2022 debut “Souvenirs”. Their music effortlessly navigates between the realms of indie rock and post-punk
Under the Radar: “Pale Blue Eyes are one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the UK in recent years. Taking their cue from the likes of M83, Slowdive and The Velvet Underground, they’ve fast become one of the circuit’s must-see acts.”
