F.GOD - new EP "All The Tall Flowers"
Ahead of his forthcoming album in 2023, UK-born now Berlin-based artist F. God delivers his debut release in the form of the ‘All The Tall Flowers’ EP
December 30, 2022
F. God, although making his musical debut here with this project, has long been working behind the scenes as a sound designer and film scorer with an intrinsic knowledge of sonic sculpture, something which is evident in his debut works to surface under this new artistic alias here. F. God tells us…
’The EP’s title is a reference to "tall poppy syndrome". It represents me trying to express myself fully whilst dealing with lingering memories of growing up in working class rural England where it's easy for a tall poppy to be continually cut down and forced to hide away or blend in. It's a nod/call to all the tall flowers who have struggled to express themselves.’’
Across the five-track EP F. God balances depth and beauty and delicate details with harder complex rhythms. Opener ‘Shhhh (F. God Remix) sets the tone with twinkling synth tones, hazy atmospherics and metallic drones. ‘Figleaf’ then lays down glitched out broken rhythms alongside stuttering voices and gentle keys before ‘Everything’s Fineite’ shifts focus to an ethereal, billowing pad line, intricately delayed drum work and bright synth chimes.
‘Rotations SkuttleBut’ follows next and cinematically unfolds across seven minutes with a cascading rhythm, dynamically unfolding synth textures and modulating effects. ‘A Tall Poppy Gathers No Moss’ then rounds out the EP on a more frenzied tip as chopped and glitched out synths meanders atop bumpy broken drums and sporadic otherworldly synth breaks.
