Nationalgalerie

Writers: Niels Frevert, Olaf Ketelsen, Matthias Krieg, Dirk Schwanke-Müller

Nationalgalerie is an influential Hamburg rock band, formed in the mid-80s as a school band and active until 1997. Best known for their single "Evelin", which made it into MTV rotation at a time when the channel was still broadcast from the UK, the 4-piece made up of Niels Frevert, Olaf Ketelsen, Matthias Krieg and Dirk Schwanke-Müller brought Anglo-American alternative rock to Germany, singing in German, and paved the way for many others. They released four albums: Heimatlos (1991), Kein Wunder (1992), Indiana (1993) and Meskalin (1995). Their style was perhaps ahead of its time, but it definitely made an impact. Frontman Niels Frevert went on to a respected solo career.
