Preceded by the first title-track single, currently in heavy rotation on some of the biggest radios all round the globe, Tanika Charles is out today with her debut LP “Soul Run”.
Growing up on a musical diet of Patti Labelle, Jill Scott, Bob James, Stevie Wonder and D’Angelo, Tanika’s eclectic music taste subconsciously shines through in ‘Soul Run’, an autobiographic album in which classic vintage sounds à la Motown mingle with more modern sonority and hip hop beats.
The album, produced among the others by Slakah The Beatchild (BBE Records), best known for his collaborations with Canadian rapper Drake, is a “sentimental concept album”, in which Tanika uses 11 songs to describe the end of a troubled relationship and the beginning of a new life. Miss Charles presents an immutable charm, at times endearingly abrasive and honest in her vulnerabilities: if Tanika’s singing it, she’s lived it!
Fans of Sharon Jones, Lee Fields and Amy Winehouse… watch out!!!
